from Salzburg to Athens on Saturday to attend an economic summit of
south-eastern Europe, organised under the auspices of the World
Economic Forum (WEF). #L#
The economic forum of south-eastern European states is the first
event of this kind. According to confirmed arrangements, besides
Croatian president, Macedonia's head of state, Boris Trajkovski,
will be also present at this event which should gather politicians,
economic experts, bankers and business people. Slovenia, Bosnia-
Herzegovina, Romania, Montenegro, Serbia and Albania will be
represented by premiers, while Turkish, Bulgarian and Greek
representatives at this event will be ministers.
Ahead of the Athens meeting, Mesic, Trajkovski and Serbia's premier
Zoran Zivkovic forwarded an open letter saying that Europe will be
integrated only when south-eastern European countries become
integrated in it.
Each country in the south-east of the Continent has launched
reforms in the political, economic and social spheres and showed
its commitment to a strategic objective, i.e. the full integration
in European processes. The pace of joining will depend on
individual achievements of each country, said the letter.
Ahead of the Athens event where he will take part, Pat Cox, the
European Parliament president, said south-eastern European
countries were advancing on the road towards the full integration
into the European Union.
One of the co-chairmen of the meeting in the Greek capital, George
Soros, the founder of the Open Society, said that the prospects of
south-eastern Europe had never been better.
Croatia's head of state will be accompanied by European Integration
Minister Neven Mimica and Tourism Minister Pave Zupan Ruskovic.
