ZAGREB, May 23 (Hina) - Croatian Deputy Prime Minister Ante Simonovic on Thursday headed a Croatian delegation that took part in a two-day regional conference on border security and management in Macedonia's Ohrid, the Croatian government reported Friday.
ZAGREB, May 23 (Hina) - Croatian Deputy Prime Minister Ante Simonovic on Thursday headed a Croatian delegation that took part in a two-day regional conference on border security and management in Macedonia's Ohrid, the Croatian government reported Friday. #L# The conference was also attended by the coordinator of the Stability Pact, Erhard Busek, OSCE secretary-general Jan Kubis, NATO Secretary-General George Robertson and EU director for the western Balkans Reinhard Priebe. Representatives of western Balkan countries agreed on a joint strategy to set up open and secure borders in the region with the aim of administering these borders well and that they be open for economic, tourist and other branches in the countries involved but at the same time to be closed to all forms of crime and terrorism. It was pointed out that borders should be demilitarised, connected to a computer network. It was also stressed that good co-operation between the bordering countries and their police and customs services needed to be established. The objective of the conference to is to improve the efficiency of border administration in line with European standards.
