"The resolution paves the way to a successful reconstruction of
Iraq in the political and economic sense, which will create
conditions for permanent stability in the country and positively
affect the entire Near East region," the ministry said in a press
statement.
Croatia is especially encouraged by the unity achieved in the
Security Council vote on Resolution 1483, and by the role of the
United Nations in post-war Iraq. The consensus at the Security
Council testifies to the strengthening of transatlantic
cooperation as one of the key factors of European and world
stability, read the statement.
The Croatian government intends to contribute to the normalisation
of the situation, the building of democratic structures, the
reconstruction of Iraq, and to extend humanitarian and other aid to
the friendly Iraqi people, within its possibilities and in
cooperation with U.S. and European partners, the statement said.
