The two-day workshop at the Zagreb Law School was organised by
Croatia's justice ministry and the European branch of the
Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) as
part of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe's Anti-
Corruption Initiative.
Attending are representatives of governments and civilians from
the Initiative's member-states, OECD, and other international
organisations and non-governmental organisations.
Anticevic-Marinovic pointed to the importance of the workshop
taking place in Croatia just as the justice ministry was putting the
finishing touches to the final draft law on the conflict of
interests.
The law tries to prevent the conflict of interests of state
officials in the performance of public duties through the creation
of conditions which will make sure that such a conflict does not
occur in the first place, said the minister.
"If there is conduct arousing suspicion of biased duty performance,
the public must make its judgement and the official bear the
political responsibility," she said.
The participants in the workshop will exchange views on the
identification and more effective settlement of conflicts of
interests, and on increasing integrity, transparency and
responsibility in public decision-making.
