Police chief Ranko Ostojic on Wednesday described the Croatian
policemen's admission to the IPA, at the association's congress in
Norway last week, as commendations not only of the police but of the
entire country.
The IPA was established in 1950 with the purpose to nurture friendly
relations and enhance international police cooperation as well as
to positively influence relations between police and citizens.
Since 1996, when preparations began in Croatia for the
establishment of IPA sections, they have pooled some 3,600 police
officers (i.e. some 1.5 percent of a total of about 20,000 Croatian
police).
