PODGORICA, May 16 (Hina) - The director and editor-in-chief of
Podgorica's DAN daily, Dusko Jovanovic, on Friday received a
summons to report to the Podgorica Higher Court by May 20 to collect
an indictment from the Hague war crimes tribunal. #L#
As previously announced by the U.N. court's prosecutor's office,
Jovanovic was indicted because last August 30 he revealed the
identity of a protected witness during the trial of former Yugoslav
President Slobodan Milosevic, thus endangering the witness' life.
The indictment charges Jovanovic with contempt.
The maximum penalty if found guilty is seven years in jail or a fine
of up to EUR100,000. Legal experts say both penalties might be
applied.
Jovanovic has said he will answer the Hague tribunal's summons, and
that DAN was not the only newspaper to have revealed the name of a
protected witness.
