Wolfowitz told reporters in the Bosnian capital that no decision on
the European Union taking over command over the peace mission in
Bosnia had been adopted. The adoption of such a decision would not
influence the USA and NATO's commitment to remaining present in the
region, he added.
The US troops are not only on a humanitarian mission in Bosnia and it
is completely clear that stability in the Balkans is part of the war
against terrorism, the US official said. The area must no longer be
a source of instability either in Europe or the world, Wolfowitz
said.
The ultimate goal of Western allies is to create conditions for
Bosnia to truly become part of Europe and join Euro-Atlantic
associations, he said.
