"Spurred by Deputy Foreign Minister Ivan Simonovic's statement
about pressure from the U.S. ambassador on the Croatian government
to sign the agreement on the non-extradition of U.S. citizens to the
International Criminal Court in Rome, we ask that Croatia
consistently stick by its affirmative policy regarding the ICC," to
the establishment of which it actively contributed and committed to
cooperate with, the Centre said in a statement.
It said U.S. Ambassador Lawrence Rossin's pressure on Croatia to
breach the international commitments it assumed based on the ICC
Statute was unacceptable.
"We express our support to the President of the Republic, the
Government and the Croatian Parliament to persevere in their policy
regarding the ICC in spite of such unilateral and unjustified
pressure," read the statement which urged all non-governmental
organisations, public institutions, political parties, and
religious communities "to advocate the respect of the
international legal order in these circumstances".
