ZAGREB, May 15 (Hina) - The association for the promotion of Croatian identity and prosperity - UHIP - on Wednesday organised an event marking the 81st anniversary of the birth of the first Croatian president, the late Franjo Tudjman. #L# The first Croatian president, Dr. Franjo Tudjman, led the Croatian people in a critical moment towards the realisation of its centuries-long dream of independence, uniting in that endeavour Croatian emigrants and Croatians living in the country. Without this, the Croatian people would not have won the Homeland War and become an equal participant in the international community, UHIP president Miroslav Tudjman said opening the event entitled "Tudjman and Croatia's Future". This view is not shared by some in the incumbent authorities, Tudjman said, adding that the victory of a six-party coalition at the last election had again caused divisions and antagonism among the Croatian people in the country and abroad. The authorities are playing down achievements in the establishment and defence of the country, which they believe should be civil and anational, since already established, while patriots are treated as the Ustasha, Tudjman said. The right-wing has been quarantined and the authorities believe it should renounce its national identity and achievements in the establishment of the national state, Tudjman said. Upon coming to power, the coalition re-established the communist ideological atmosphere, finding support among globalists and those who opposed the establishment of the Croatian state. Croatia today lives in a virtual reality where facts are being forged, one of such forgeries being the claim that the Homeland War was not caused by an act of aggression but was a civil war arranged by President Tudjman and Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic to cover up their plans to divide Bosnia-Herzegovina, Tudjman said. Because they are not responsible towards their freedom, the Croatian people themselves are to blame for the fact that Croatian citizens are being tried in The Hague and the country is in the waiting room of European associations, said Tudjman. The Croatian people need a true revival to be able to live freely and the path to the European Union leads through spiritual revival and the revival of truth and justice, he added. The first Croatian president does not need eulogies because historical facts speak for themselves, Tudjman said. (hina) rml sb
