LJUBLJANA, May 13 (Hina) - Croatia and Slovenia must emphasise issues on which the two countries agree, Croatian President Stjepan Mesic said after he held talks with his Slovenian counterpart Janez Drnovsek on the first day of his visit to Slovenia. #L# "I believe that this visit will help re-establish a real climate of friendship and a political atmosphere which would facilitate our rapprochement. I do not say that we have grown apart, but the public in both countries have given an emphasis on issues where there was no agreement, while hundreds of solved issues and those which connected us have been neglected," Mesic said, urging a change in this attitude and the promotion of elements which make the two neighbours closer. At a news conference, Slovenian President Drnovsek said the relations with Zagreb would continue to be of great importance for Slovenian politics, and added that Ljubljana would like to see Croatia become a European Union member as soon as possible. Thanks to their relations and economic cooperation, Croatia and Slovenia could be a stability factor in the region, he said. Asked about the problem of paying back funds to Croatian clients who opened accounts with the Ljubljanska Bank in the former Federal Socialist Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY), Drnovsek reiterated the Slovenian stand that this was a part of problems of the succession to the ex-SFRY and that it could be solved at additional negotiations. He added that in the past years many bilateral issues had been settled. (hina) ms
