On the second day of his visit to Croatia, Slovakia's Eduard Kukan
said that the two countries' future lay in Euro-Atlantic
integration.
He added that Slovakia, which signed an agreement on admission into
the European Union, was ready to help Croatia on its path to NATO and
the EU.
Croatian Foreign Minister Tonino Picula said the two countries'
political relations were traditionally good as Croatia and
Slovakia shared the same objectives in the field of foreign
policy.
"There are no open political issues, but there is room to advance
economic relations," the Croatian minister said.
Croatia and Slovakia have signed more than 60 agreements. Trade
between the two countries totals US$112 million, while about
200,000 Slovak tourists visit Croatia each year.
There are good possibilities for improving economic cooperation in
the food-processing and pharmaceutical industries and transport.
The two ministers said it was now up to businessmen to take
advantage of the countries' good political relations.
Later today, Kukan should meet Croatian President Stjepan Mesic and
Parliament President Zlatko Tomcic.
