Picula informed the US official about the situation in Croatia and
efforts the government was making to implement the reforms
necessary for admission to the European Union and NATO.
Powell conveyed his country's support for the continuation of
Croatia's integration in Euro-Atlantic structures and its positive
role in the region, adding that the USA highly appreciated
Croatia's active role in the anti-terrorist coalition, the
statement noted.
The two officials also discussed the situation in the Middle East,
especially Iraq, and Picula reiterated that Croatia was interested
in participating in the normalisation of the situation and removal
of consequences of the war in that country.
Powell thanked Croatia for its support to the United States in the
past period, especially for its humanitarian aid for Iraq, stating
that it was of material and great symbolic importance.
