One of the first persons to extend his condolences to Bobetko's
family was military ordinary, Bishop Juraj Jezerinac, who
regularly visited the general during the last days of his life.
The family was also visited by the president of the Croatian
Democratic Union (HDZ), Ivo Sanader, the president of the Social
Liberals (HSLS), Drazen Budisa, deputy Armed Forces Chief-of-Staff
Slavko Baric, and retired generals Kresimir Cosic, Milenko
Filipovic, Ivan Basarac and Ante Kotromanovic.
The date of the funeral has not yet been made public. Unofficial
sources say General Bobetko will be buried at the town cemetery in
Sisak, but the pre-funeral ceremony will be held at Zagreb's
central cemetery, Mirogoj.
Bobetko's co-fighters say that the general's last wish was that he
did not want any speeches at his funeral, but asked that he be seen
off by retired General Mirko Norac, who was recently sentenced to 12
years in prison for war crimes in the Gospic area.
Unofficial sources also say that the defence ministry will take
part in preparations for the funeral. The ministry has a prepared
protocol for the burial of Croatian army's top officers.
The HDZ opened a book of condolence at 6pm in the party's offices.
Bobetko was a HDZ senior official until the end of his life.
Retired Staff General Janko Bobetko passed away at 11:15 hours
today in his home in Zagreb.
