ZAGREB, April 28 (Hina) - Unions will this year jointly mark May 1,

representatives of the Croatian Federation of Independent Trade
Unions (SSSH), told a news conference Monday. #L#
"There will be no parade from Ban Jelacic Square as last year,
partly because of the extended weekend and a lesser number of
participants in the protest, and partly because of uncompleted
negotiations about amendments to the Labour Act," SSSH chief
commissioner in Zagreb, Damir Gasparovic, said.
He said the Labour Day rally cannot be of either a protest or
celebratory nature, considering the uncertain outcome of
negotiations on amendments to the Labour Act and the future level of
workers' rights.
Union leaders decided to invite to the event the president, prime
minister and parliament president, who will decide themselves
whether to address the gathered workers.
Last year unionists did not invite any politician, so only
President Stjepan Mesic turned up in Maksimir Park, but privately.
