The six-day international multimedia festival in the Gavella
theatre dealing with sexual themes began on Friday with a play
"Men".
"With our protest, we wish to express our disagreement with the
festival and the Queer conference, to warn citizens of the dangers
of homosexuality and promiscuity and to call the organisers and
participants of the festival to turn to the moral biblical
principles. We also want to appeal for the government in Croatia and
Zagreb to protect traditional values of Croatian society - wedlock
and the family," Dean Vatroslav Zupancic of the Evangelic Church
said over his loud speaker.
Several dozen protesters stood peacefully across the street from
the "Gavella" theatre meeting up with participants of the festival.
Zupancic called on participants, in English and Croatian, to revert
and repent, pointing out that this was a protest of love and not hate
and that God loves man but hates all sin. The dignitary referred to
homosexuality as perverse.
The protest organised by the Evangelic Church lasted about an hour
without any incidents.
