ZAGREB, April 15 (Hina) - The chairman of the Executive Committee of
the Croatian Employers' Association (HUP), Ivica Mudrinic, said on
Tuesday he believed that a "quantum leap" should be the modality of
the development of Croatia and its economy. #L#
"Linear development would mean a continued and permanent lagging
behind developed countries, so personally, I advocate a quantum
leap as the modality of development of Croatia and its economy,"
Mudrinic told a news conference.
There are sectors of the economy which can make this quantum leap,
Mudrinic believes. The telecommunications sector, not just
Croatian Telecom, but the entire sector, has already made the leap.
The same can be done in tourism, pharmacology, there are examples in
the food industry, and one needs to see what can be done on the
regional level, he said.
Mudrinic, elected to lead the HUP on March 20, said the
association's task was to affirm entreprenneurship as a positive
social value.
HUP Director General Zeljko Ivancevic expressed hope that a
rational approach would prevail in today's talks between Prime
Minister Ivica Racan and union leaders about amendments to the
labour act.
"I believe that there will be no need for union actions after the
talks and the continuation of talks with unions. Croatia does not
need a strike, but more work to implement reforms," Ivancevic
said.
He stressed that the reform of the labour legislation was one of the
necessary reforms for improving competitiveness.
