BELGRADE, April 10 (Hina) - The Serbian police will spare nobody in
their investigation into the assassination of Serbian Premier
Zoran Djindjic and claims to that effect are "notorious lies" and
are part of the rhetoric which led to Djindjic's murder, Serbian
Vice-Premier Zarko Korac said. #L#
"The story about contacts between senior officials and party
leaders and the leaders of criminal gangs is not over yet and we are
looking at more surprises. Clear facts are needed to present
concrete names," Korac said in an interview for the Vecernje
novosti daily of Thursday.
The police questioned an advisor to former Yugoslav President
Vojislav Kostunica, Rade Bulatovic, and a former head of the
Yugoslav military intelligence, Aleksandar Tomic (both were
arrested on Tuesday), because "their names cropped up during the
investigation and they were taken in later, after new facts were
revealed," Korac said.
The vice-premier added that the question of responsibility of
"those who perhaps could have done more to prevent Djindjic's
murder" would be opened only after the investigation into his
assassination was completed.
Commenting on Bulatovic and Tomic's arrest due to their alleged
contacts with the heads of the "Zemun mobster clan" ahead of
Djindjic's murder, Kostunica said it was part of a campaign of the
"persecution of political opponents". Dragan Marsicanin, vice-
president of Kostunica's Democratic Party of Serbia, directly
accused Serbian Vice-Premier Cedomir Jovanovic of connections with
the clan, as well as of his being responsible for the release of
Dusan Spasojevic Siptar from prison after the French police
deported him to Serbia due to the forging of personal documents.
Spasojevic was recently killed in a police operation.
Jovanovic dismissed the accusations, saying Kostunica and his
party were trying to misdirect the investigation into Djindjic's
murder.
