SARAJEVO, April 9 (Hina) - The House of Representatives of Bosnia-
Herzegovina on Wednesday appointed Borislav Paravac the new Serb
member of Bosnia's three-man Presidency. #L#
Paravac was nominated by the Serb Democratic Party (SDS) after
Mirko Sarovic, also an SDS member, had to step down due to a scandal
involving the export of arms to Iraq.
During the voting in the lower house of the Bosnian parliament,
opposition deputies walked out in protest over Paravac's election
or abstained from the voting.
Immediately upon Paravac's nomination for Sarovic's successor in
the state presidency, independent media started speculating about
the new candidate's role in the war and war events in the central
town of Doboj. It is well known that Paravac, as an SDS member, was
the head of the municipal government in Doboj at the time local
Serbs launched a campaign of persecution of local Croats and
Muslims.
Paravac is believed to be responsible for plunder, wrongdoing and
abuse of office while he was a power-monger in Doboj.
