SPLIT, April 4 (Hina) - Twenty-seven of the 34 councillors
attending Friday's session of the Split-Dalmatia County Assembly
cancelled a tender for granting a concession for the use of the
Zlatni Rat beach on the island of Brac. #L#
The county leadership last year decided to grant the concession to
the "Modul" company from Metkovic, owned by a relative of soccer
player Igor Stimac. The assembly never confirmed the decision.
The county leadership decision met with strong resistance,
especially by the residents of the town of Bol on the island, who
believe that they should manage the beach.
Bol residents organised protests in front of the county assembly in
Split and were supported by county branches of the Social Democrats
(SDP) and the Croatian People's Party (HNS). They, thus, managed to
prevent the issue from being included in the county assembly
agenda.
Today, when this item was included in the agenda, the tender was
cancelled.
