According to some estimates, the sum in those banks is some 226
million dollars of clear deposits. Croatia, Slovenia, Macedonia
and Bosnia-Herzegovina believe the deposits in question should be
treated as part of assets in succession and that they should be
divided among successors according to the agreed key.
After they failed to agree on the way and dynamics of the division
and withdrawing of the said assets, all the countries-successors
should decide on their own how they would represent their interests
before the American authorities, an official of Macedonia, Dusanka
Hristova, said after the meeting of the committee for the division
of the financial assets and debts of the former SFRY.
The participants in the meeting agreed that until next session,
scheduled for May in Slovenia, a report should be drawn up by an
expert team on the remaining $81 million which should be withdrawn
from a score of countries.
The Skopje event also revolved around the implementation of a
signed agreement on the settling of the clearing debt of the former
Soviet Union as well as on regulating such kind of debt of other
countries.
