ZAGREB, March 28 (Hina) - The main committee of the Croatian World
Congress (HSK) on Friday wrapped up its annual meeting in Zagreb by
presenting awards to those who deserved credit for their
contribution to Croatia and the Croatian Diaspora. #L#
The meeting, which began on 26 March, drew representatives of
Croatian immigrants in 29 countries around the world.
The HSK awarded the Croatian national handball team, which won the
latest world championships, for their exceptional promotion of
Croatia in the world.
One of the award recipients is a French philosopher, Alain
Finkelkraut, commended for his role in promoting Croatian national
interests.
The HSK president, Simun Sito Coric, told reporters that this
association asked Croatian authorities to urgently prepare a
programme for the return of Croatian emigrants because of the poor
demographic situation in the country.
Coric advocated "better legal foundations" in relations with the
Hague-based UN war crimes tribunal, describing the current
relations as "inadequate and obsequious".
The HSK believes that the Dayton agreement, which served its
purpose to end the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina, should be altered and
Bosnia organised according to either the Belgian or the Swiss
model.
Coric said the HSK had filed a suit in New York against a former High
Representative of the international community to Bosnia, Wolfgang
Petritsch. The association accuses the Austrian of having caused
financial damage to Bosnian Croats and having dismissed them from
the army and police, and insists that the international community
pay damages in the amount of US$300 million to the injured party.
