The panel also dismissed a motion by the county state prosecution
that Rozic be remanded in custody, so the defendant will be free
during the trial.
Rozic was on Monday acquitted in the trial of the so-called Gospic
Group, accused of war crimes committed in late 1991, in Rijeka. This
new case bears no connection with the Rijeka trial.
The new indictment accuses Rozic of 14 counts of bombing the houses
of Serb returnees in Lika region from 1996 through 1998. Five people
were killed in the blasts.
Rozic's attorney Mirko Ruzic said that an investigation which had
been conducted had found no evidence to support any of the counts.
Witnesses and injured parties did not connect Rozic with the crimes
in any way, and the indictment was "hasty", he added.
