Patten said that the report confirmed tremendous progress made by
Croatia. He added, however, that the commission would like to see
more results with regard to the return of refugees as well as a more
comprehensive cooperation with the U.N. war crimes tribunal. The
commission is also somewhat concerned about the new law on the
Croatian Radio and Television, Patten said.
The EC official applauded Croatia's application for EU
membership.
The Council of Ministers will discuss Croatia's application in
several weeks' time, said Patten, adding he expected the Council to
ask the European Commission to draft an assessment.
Patten expects the Commission to make its assessment within a
year.
