In a press release signed by the leadership head, Mirko Condic, said
that "spurred by one-sided views of the possibility of the US and
allies' intervention against Saddam Hussein", veterans felt called
upon to, as victims of dictator Slobodan Milosevic and the Greater
Serbian terrorism, express their understanding for the efforts of
the US to disarm Saddam's regime and thus remove a threat against
the democratic world.
"The Croatian people know very well about the horrors of war, so
because we opt for permanent peace, we support the use of force with
the aim of preventing a worse evil," says the statement.
It also says that veterans "remember and appreciate a constructive
role of the US before and during the (Croatian liberation
operation) Storm in 1995".
The associations sent a message to the critics of the military
intervention that they had learnt nothing from the acts of
dictators such as Hitler, Stalin and Milosevic. Otherwise, they
would know that it is necessary to prevent an evil before it spreads
globally, they say.
