Asked if Slovenia was among the 30 states which demand that Iraq
disarm at once, and thus side with the U.S. which yesterday
published a list of states endorsing its policy toward Iraq,
Drnovsek answered in the negative, saying it was bad that lists were
being made of which states were on which side.
Drnovsek said yesterday that arguments between the United States
and NATO's European members could adversely affect the outcome of a
Slovene referendum on the country's admission to the alliance. He
hoped, however, this would not be the case.
Public opinion polls show that the referendum on European Union and
NATO entry will be successful, even though support to the alliance
is considerably smaller than that to the Union.
