Speaking after attending the funeral of Serbian Prime Minister
Zoran Djindjic, Schwimmer said this assassination would not pose a
hurdle to Serbia and Montenegro's upcoming admission into the
Council of Europe.
The country's Council of Ministers, which should be constituted
next week, has to fulfil all the obligations the Belgrade
authorities have taken on, including clear signals that Belgrade is
cooperating with the U.N. war crimes tribunal in The Hague, said
Schwimmer.
Prodi said the European Union would give Serbia and Montenegro
political, organisational and financial help to overcome the
difficult time in the wake of the Djindjic assassination.
Attending the meeting with the two European leaders were Serbia and
Montenegro President Svetozar Marovic, Foreign Minister Goran
Svilanovic, and the former police minister and vice president of
the Democratic Party, Zoran Zivkovic.
