We are all on the same boat and only revived consensus and
partnership can result in a solution to the problems we are faced
with" Racan said on Wednesday afternoon speaking at Croatian
Business Day, organised by the Croatian Employers' Association
(HUP) with the topic about exports and economic growth.
"I am convinced that the unions too, that have until now in
principle accepted reforms to the labour market, understand the
need for these reforms as do employers and that they will all gain
the strength and responsibility not to block that process," Racan
said.
Commenting on changes to the Labour Act with the aim of creating a
more flexible labour market, he described them as "the most bitter
pill" that would soon have to be swallowed but without which the
country could not recuperate.
He stressed that privatisation would continue as long as it had
economical significance and that it was clear that there would not
be any political compromise in the privatisation process.
The premier emphasised that the government firmly stood behind a
project of expanding strong Croatian companies in the region and
that it would assist mergers by these companies within Croatia, as
well as assist in concrete joint projects to conquer other markets
including using the privatisation process to do so.
He answered several questions by businessmen and then announced
that a joint document would be formulated concerning exports.
