MOSTAR, Feb 18 (Hina) - The city authorities and the co-ordinating body in a project of the reconstruction of Mostar's landmark -- The Old Bridge ("Stari Most") -- on Tuesday expressed hope that France would not withdraw from the
restoration of the bridge. On Monday the French Ambassador to Sarajevo, Bernard Bajolet, warned that his country might discontinue its participation in the reconstruction of the famous Old Bridge in this southern city.
MOSTAR, Feb 18 (Hina) - The city authorities and the co-ordinating
body in a project of the reconstruction of Mostar's landmark -- The
Old Bridge ("Stari Most") -- on Tuesday expressed hope that France
would not withdraw from the restoration of the bridge. On Monday the
French Ambassador to Sarajevo, Bernard Bajolet, warned that his
country might discontinue its participation in the reconstruction
of the famous Old Bridge in this southern city. #L#
Bajolet was cited by local media as saying that the project was
facing severe difficulties.
It seems that the main reason for the French dissatisfaction is the
fact that a Turkish company, called "ER-BU", the main constructor,
has taken stone masons from Turkey for this job, and therefore the
stone masons, trained at the Mostar workshop, financed by France,
will not be employed.
