After an hour-long meeting at his office on Wednesday, Tomcic told
reporters that he would see, without interfering with judicial
independence, that the adoption of a ruling on the state
prosecution's request for the introduction of temporary measures
in Croatia Bus by the competent court be expedited.
The parliament speaker said Croatia Bus was one in a series of cases
of a slow and difficult process of settlement of ownership
relations which proved that the judiciary was slow and
inefficient.
"This is also an example of inadequate transformation and
privatisation, and the government will have to say something about
the role of the Croatian Privatisation Fund," he added.
Tomcic believes that it is too early to call a parliamentary debate
about the problem because "there is a large number of similar
situations in the country and the legislative body cannot afford
discussing only one case".
"However, should the situation escalate to a completely non-
functional legal system, the Sabor will have to take the matter into
its hands," he said.
