ZAGREB, Feb 7 (Hina) - A newspaper's claim that the Croatian
Christian Democratic Union (HKDU) is to be dissolved and that its
members will join the Croatian Democratic Union is "journalistic
speculation", and nobody in the HKDU is thinking of disbanding, its
president Anto Kovacevic said on Friday. #L#
"That's speculation without real ground," he told Hina by
telephone.
"HKDU is an original political project that has been on the Croatian
political scene with parliamentary status for a decade."
He said it was concluded at a session of the HKDU Supreme Council
yesterday that the party, as the strongest democratic Christian
option in Croatia, must be the centre of all democratic Christians
because "Croats must unite and not fragment".
HKDU has 12,500 registered members of whom 4,500 are active, said
Kovacevic.
