Croatia's efforts towards this aim have been recognised and NATO
will support them with its 'open door' policy towards the country's
membership in the alliance, the Office quoted NATO's assistant
secretary-general for political affairs, Guenther Altenburg, as
saying.
President Mesic stressed that reforms should be implemented and
NATO standards adopted as soon as possible so that the Croatian
armed forces could be able to participate in international peace-
keeping missions.
