PULA, Jan 29 (Hina) - The head of the Croatian Doctors' Union (HLS)
executive committee for Istria, Edoardo Giudici, said on Wednesday
the strike committee in the Pula hospital, supported by unionists
and the doctors' corps, wrote a petition asking the government and
Premier Ivica Racan to replace Health Minister Andro Vlahusic. #L#
Giudici said the petition had been sent to all hospitals and clinics
in Istria, and after the collection of signatures the petition
would be forwarded to the government and Premier Racan who were
asked to reconsider whether Vlahusic was capable of performing the
ministerial duty.
The unionists in Istria insist on Vlahusic's replacement because of
his "inappropriate conduct and lack of competence."
The petition was also launched because of Vlahusic's "demagogic"
statements which Giudici labelled as untruths or semi-truths which
was contrary to the code of ethics.
With still no solution to the problems on the state levels, doctors'
strike continues with the same intensity, and the Istrian branch of
the doctors' union demanded of the main strike committee to
internationalise the problem and inform the European Federation of
Salaried Doctors and the European Parliament in Strasbourg of the
problems of Croatian physicians. The branch also suggested that
European experts should be asked to visit some Croatian hospitals
and clinics so that they might be acquainted with the justified
reasons for the strike.
