ZAGREB, Jan 29 (Hina) - Science as the generator of development in
modern societies is the starting point of a draft strategy for the
development of science in Croatia in the 21st century, Deputy
Science and Technology Minister Zdenko Franic said in parliament on
Wednesday presenting the draft. #L#
The government-sponsored strategy, which will be discussed by the
parliament today, sees the development of science as a lever to help
build a society of knowledge.
The strategy requires the reform of the system of science and
related legislation. The basic principles of the strategy consist
of ten goals.
Those goals include: securing conditions which will give science
the status it has in modern developed countries, increasing the
number of highly educated people, increasing budgetary funds for
science, defining the role of scientific subjects and the system of
evaluation, transfer of knowledge, commercialising scientific
discoveries and increasing cooperation between science and
economy.
The deputy minister also stressed the importance of international
cooperation. The ministry has made significant progress over the
past three years by employing more than 3,000 junior researchers,
Franic said, hoping the document would be the basis for the
development of science in the new century.
The head of the parliamentary committee on education, science and
culture, Hrvoje Kraljevic, said the committee supported the draft
but noted that it should refer to the entire education system.
