At a news conference in Zagreb, the union presented several pay
slips from which it was visible that a pathology specialist in a
county hospital with 14 years of service has a base salary of 6,430
kuna (EUR857), while an anaesthesiology specialist in a clinic
hospital with 35 years of service has a base salary of 6,770 kuna
(EUR903).
The base salary of a doctor with 16 years of service in a county
hospital is only 4,900 kuna (653 euros), the union said.
The 10,000 kuna figure mentioned by the minister includes a bonus
for on-call and stand-by duties, while half of hospital doctors,
due to the nature of their job, can earn only the base salary, said
union president Ivica Babic.
It is for these doctors that the union is seeking a linear pay raise
of a net 2,000 kuna (267 euros), he said.
Babic concluded by stating that the Health Ministry never wanted to
confirm in writing what it had promised verbally during
negotiations.
