Talks about union demands and the cessation of the strike will
resume today at the Health Ministry.
Vice-Premier Ante Simonic, who initiated yesterday's talks, hopes
that the government and the doctors' union could reach an agreement
in a couple of days.
The leader of the Croatian Doctors' Union, Ivica Babic, said the
strike would resume at the same scale as in previous days and the
committee in charge of the action would today decide about further
measures.
The union demands an increase in the salaries of doctors with passed
state examinations to amount to two average Croatian salaries or
7,000 kuna (EUR933) and an increase in the salaries of specialists
to amount to 2.5 average salaries or 9,000 kuna (EUR1,200).
Last Monday, hospital doctors cancelled non-urgent operations
while polyclinics stopped working.
