ZAGREB, Jan 22 (Hina) - A representative of a group of Ljubljanska Bank clients, Bozidar Vukasovic, reported Wednesday that he had been informed by the European Commission that this body was not competent to resolve the issue of the
bank's debts to Croatian clients.

Slovenia will assume EU provisions for the financial sector and the
protection of banks' clients after it joins the European Union,
therefore the regulations will be applicable only to cases after
its accession into the Union, the European Commission explained,
Vukasovic told reporters.
He believes that a solution would be to confiscate Slovenia's
property in Croatia until Croatian clients of Ljubljanska Bank are
paid all their savings. Another solution is to annul the bilateral
agreement on legal and economic issues which allows Slovene
citizens to own real-estate in Croatia, he said.
