Citing unnamed diplomatic sources, the daily said the it was 99
percent certain that February 25 was the date for the official
application.
Explaining the procedure which is to ensue, the daily said that
Greece, which currently holds the presidency of the EU, should
notify EU bodies of the application.
The official stand of the EU on Croatia's application should not be
expected this year because of procedural reasons, "Vjesnik" said,
adding that the consideration of applications usually takes one
year.
Although Croatian officials hope that Croatia may enter the Union
together with Bulgaria and Romania, in the second wave of its
expansion, probably in 2007, the daily gave more cautious forecasts
saying the country might be admitted between 2008 and 2012.
