After the UN Mission of Observers on Prevlaka officially handed
control of the peninsula to Croatia, HCR experts drew up an
implementation project to demine the area as well as the border belt
between Croatia and Montenegro, which amounts to more than 64,000
square metres.
The funds have been set aside in HCR's budget. The work, which will
be done by the Mungos company, will cost about a million kuna
(EUR133,000), HCR officials said.
HCR Council head Davorko Vidovic said the re-establishment of
Croatia's sovereignty on Prevlaka enabled undertaking steps to
enable the restitution of property to owners and revive the
economy.
Vidovic said that some 300 million kuna (EUR40 million) had been set
aside for mine clearing this year. Some of the work will be done by
Russian mine clearing companies which will thus return about 30
million dollars of Russia's clearing debt to Croatia.
