Sixty-six million kuna (approx. EUR8.8 million) has been granted to
the ministry for the financing of culture. The amount is eight
percent higher than last year.
Most of the resources will be allocated to some 1,200 cultural
heritage programmes, 1,000 museum, gallery and archive programmes
and around 900 music and theatre programmes.
Film, magazines, literary events, libraries, international
cultural cooperation and computerisation will be financed as
well.
Vujic said that a special tender would be published for books.
A new registry of cultural goods, a key document establishing the
body of Croatia's monuments, will be drawn up this year, the
minister announced.
Of the more important projects he accentuated the start of
construction of museums of modern art in Zagreb and Rijeka, the
renovation and standing display of the Modern Gallery and the
Mestrovic Pavilion in Zagreb, and the completion of a large reading
hall at the Croatian State Archives.
The minister conceded that Croatia was insufficiently represented
in Graz, Austria, which is the European cultural centre this year,
but, he added, some Croatian artists would be present.
