BELGRADE, Jan 15 (Hina) - The transfer of Ratko Mladic, Veselin
Sljivancanin and Miroslav Radic, who have been indicted by the UN
war crimes tribunal in The Hague, would enable US Secretary of State
Colin Powell to adopt a positive attitude to the resumption of US
assistance to Yugoslavia, said the US envoy in charge of war crimes
issues, Richard Prosper. #L#
The US official said the Yugoslav authorities had to arrest Mladic
and the two former Yugoslav People's Army officers in order to reach
the point from where Yugoslavia would be able to deal with war
crimes issues on its own, Prosper said in an interview with
Wednesday's issue of "Vecernje novosti" daily.
The United States would attach great importance to the arrest of the
three men, which would mean not only the unblocking of US assistance
but easier access to European associations and NATO, the US
diplomat said.
