ZAGREB, Jan 9 (Hina) - The Croatian Ski Association said Thursday
that Ante Kostelic's statement in a Globus weekly article that he
would not pay taxes in Croatia had been taken out of context. #L#
Commenting on the article and a statement Finance Minister Mato
Crkvenac made earlier today, the association issued a statement
signed by the chief coach of the Croatian ski team, Ante Kostelic,
and the team's manager, Vedran Pavlek.
The statement reads that Kostalic's statement in Globus had been
"misinterpreted" and "taken out of context".
"He (Kostelic) said he did not want to pay taxes in two countries,
which relates to the incomes which his son and daughter, Ivica and
Janica, earned at competitions," reads the statement.
Ante Kostelic, as an employee of the Croatian Ski Association from
which he receives his income, does pay taxes and contributions to
the state, "and does not intend to pay taxes anywhere else but in
Croatia as long as he lives", the statement says.
It also notes that Janica and Ivica Kostelic reside outside of
Croatia for more than 250 days a year and are exercising their legal
right to register their place of residence outside of Croatia.
