During a working meeting with primary school principals, Strugar
said they must notify parents that the regular school semester
begins as of January 13. He categorically refused union requests
for a "closed school" strike.
School principals must write down all employees who refuse to work.
Their salaries will be lessened for the days spent not working, said
the minister, adding that the ministry would consider the strike
illegal if not reported on time.
The Union of Croatian Teachers has announced a strike in primary
schools from January 13 through 17 because the government had
decided to distribute an additional 200 million kuna only for the
salaries of teachers, excluding non-teaching staff.
