Svilanovic, who is also the head of the national council for
cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for the
former Yugoslavia (ICTY), recalled that a few months ago, when
Milutinovic asked it for its opinion, the Serbian government
expressed the stand that he was enjoying immunity as president and
that no procedure could be conducted against him in accordance with
the law on co-operation with the Hague-based ICTY, which issued the
indictment against him for crimes committed in Kosovo 1998 and
1999.
After Milutinovic's term of office expired on 29 December, a
competent judge from the Belgrade-based Municipal Court addressed
the Serbian government asking it to give the green light for the
start of the extradition procedure.
Svilanovic expects that the procedure will be completed in the
coming days after national holidays in Serbia.
