This year's commemoration was held under the sponsorship of Sabor
President Zlatko Tomcic.
At the same time, a great number of Vukovar citizens gathered for
the new year's revelry, organised in the central square by the
Croatian Radio Vukovar and the city authorities who distanced
themselves from the commemoration in front of the Stone Cross,
explaining that what the UBIUDR organised was inappropriate for the
mood of Vukovarans on New Year's Eve and during New Year
celebrations.
UBIUDR President Mladen Pavkovic said that the aim of the
commemoration was to draw attention to the fact that there was still
a high number of missing Croats, particularly those from Vukovar
area.
