Wishing Luxembourg success in performing this responsible and important task, Seks recalled that membership talks between the EU and Croatia were expected to start on 17 March 2005 and voiced confidence that his visit to Luxembourg in early February, at Weiler's invitation, would additionally confirm Croatia's consistent and sincere democratic and pro-European orientation.
The European Council's decision of December 17 on the start of accession talks is an important acknowledgement to Croatia and its citizens for the achieved level of democracy, the functioning of the rule of law, economic development and civilisational standards, Seks said.
"We consider that decision a success of all of us who have advocated the European idea. It is a great pleasure for me to state that Croatia's membership in the EU has received unconditional support of all Croatian parliamentary parties," Seks said in the letter.
