ZAGREB, Dec 22 (Hina) - The Ministry of Family, War Veterans and
Intergenerational Solidarity issued a statement on Wednesday saying that the
government's commission monitoring the implementation of the National Programme
for Roma had adopted a draft action plan aimed at integrating the Roma
community into society in the period from 2005 to 2015.The government plan is in line with the Decade project, which has been
initiated by the World Bank and the Open Society Foundation to integrate Roma
into society. Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Macedonia,
Romania, Serbia and Montenegro, and Slovakia have joined in the project.
The action plan complements the National Programme for Roma, which was
adopted in 2003. It has been designed to encourage resolution of problems
confronted by the Roma population in education, health, employment and housing,
and to help overcome the marginalisation of the Roma minority and eradication
of poverty, the statement said.
