The black marble plaque, bearing the inscription "In memory of Ustashas killed for the NDH (Independent State of Croatia)", was removed by local utility workers from the building housing the offices of the Vitesko Alkarsko Drustvo Society (VAD), which organises an annual medieval-style jousting tournament known as Alka.
The plaque was placed on the building, which has served as an army social club since 1860 when it was built, by the local branch of the Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) on April 10, 1993. State authorities recently gave the building for use by the VAD.
Two months ago the VAD sent a written request to the HSP to remove the plaque, but the request was refused.
