Quoting sources close to the Varesanovic family, the daily reports that the boy was kidnapped in Sarajevo's neighbourhood of Bjelave while returning from school, located only twenty metres from the apartment building where he lives.
Varesanovic came to pick up his son from school and sent him home because he had to attend a parent-teacher meeting.
Those few unsupervised minutes were enough for the kidnappers to snatch the child and phone the family, demanding a ransom of one million euros to be paid until Saturday.
The parents have been refusing any contact with the media and the kidnapping has not been confirmed by the police either.
"Dnevni avaz" reported that this was not the first time the former soccer player had received phone threats.
