Solana met Croatian Foreign Minister Miomir Zuzul in Brussels earlier today. The two officials exchanged views in connection with a European Council summit later this month at which Croatia expects to be given a date for European Union entry negotiations.
According to the press release, Solana told Zuzul he was happy with Croatia's progress in recent months in the meeting of all EU membership criteria and terms, reminded Zuzul of obligations to the Hague tribunal, and underlined that EU member countries appreciated Croatia's progress in membership preparations.
Zuzul informed Solana the Croatian Government was determined to fully cooperate with the UN court, said the press release.
The minister told the press after the talks with Solana he was confident Croatia would be given a date for the EU entry talks at the December 17 summit.
Zuzul visited Brussels as part of a brief European tour aimed at explaining what Croatia has been doing since the Hague tribunal's chief prosecutor informed the UN Security Council in late November that fugitive indictee Ante Gotovina is the only obstacle in Croatia's cooperation with the tribunal. Zuzul's first stop was London.
