ZAGREB/BERLIN, Nov 20 (Hina) - Croatian Foreign Minister Miomir Zuzul attended in Berlin on Saturday the Tenth European Forum, which was dedicated to Europe's political and economic development, the ministry said in a press release.

The event, organised by the Herbert Quandt Foundation and the British Financial Times daily, discussed cooperation with former Soviet countries, the future of the European integration process, and relations within the European Union following the ratification of the Constitution.

In his address, Zuzul said admission to the EU represented the return to Europe for the countries of the continent's southeast.

Zuzul said meeting EU admission criteria was important because the essence of membership was not the technical aspects of trade but the high values shared by the EU nations. He added that European prospects were very important for the countries in Southeast Europe as a framework for reforms and a guarantee that stability would be maintained.

Zuzul recalled Robert Schuman's declaration, stating that the process of EU integration and enlargement must continue regardless of the difficulties on the path.

The minister said Schuman's declaration was founded on the notions of reconciliation and coexistence, as well as the desire to prevent future wars. He added Europe must not lose the idealism that existed when the declaration was made.

Senior officials of Russia, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan presented their visions of future cooperation and stronger economic ties with the EU.

The chair of the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs, Elmar Brok, spoke of the EU's willingness to establish relations and economic cooperation with Eurasian countries.
